The current kitchen operates under difficult conditions due to lack of space and limited appropriate facilities. The project brief to Original Field of Architecture was to analyse and understand the issues with the dining and food delivery system and make proposals to address these. After initial consultation and observation, a lengthy process of exploration and design development took place between St Clare’s and the design team. This has resulted in the proposal to design a new extension to the existing building at no.135 Banbury Road that responds to the client’s brief, site and context. The design is high quality, modern and energy efficient which will fulfil the College’s requirements for food storage and processing. The new kitchen also aims to provide a quality work environment with much improved staff welfare facilities.
The project secured planning in May 2017 and is due to start on site in 2019.
